Local Farm Visit - Hodge's farm on Hereford Road, Oropi

On our first day of school Whae Raelene and myself took the students to visit Peter Hodge, a local farmer, they have had 3 daughters complete their schooling at Oropi.  We gave the Korean students a 'kiwiana farm experince'.

They watched sheep being shorn

Harry and Alex "stomped wool" in a woolpress,  (the woolshed 'smelt really bad' they thought!),

Ross the puppy was pretty cute, he was only 4 months old

After morning tea, we hopped onto the transport trailer of the tractor and went down to the river for a bbq lunch.

Harry, Alex and Min were in charge of cooking us our sausages! They were good too!

After lunch we went and fed the eels - left over sausages and bread.  It was great fun, lots of eels came up as soon as we threw in food.  Some were very long and fat, Harry nearly found out how sharp their teeth are! They bit his gumboots!

We walked a little way up the river to see the waterfall

Then it was time to head back to school, on the back of the tractor - hold on Whae Raelene! We had a fantastic day.
